Since there is so much competition
and clutter in advertising, companies have to start being more creative with
how they get their message to consumers. Some companies have started this
creative process. One example is to advertise by using escalators or stairs
like the Coca Cola advertisement shown below on the left. Other companies are
getting even more creative than this. The Coop paint advertisement shown below in the center includes a billboard spilling paint and below that is a few cars
with the same paint on them. The last picture shown below on the right is an
advertisement for watchmaker IWC where they designed straps on buses to look
like the watches they make.
I believe that these types of
advertisements are very effective and would get a lot more people to notice
them over any regular commercial, online or print advertisement. If people see
these advertisements, I don't think they would or be able not think about them
when they see another ad from that company. What I mean by that is if someone
saw the watch advertisement and then saw a commercial for the same company; I
don’t think they would be able to not associate it with the bus straps. This is
great for the company because then consumers would buy their brand over others.
So do you think more companies are going to get into this type of advertising?
If so, do you think that these type ads would be as effective if more companies
were doing them?

I feel like these are very eye catching, but not always effective. Isn't the spilled paint ad one for an insurance company? I am not sure of the relation between the two but maybe I am missing a detail. Also, I feel like the IWC watches is also not effective because they placed this ad in a location where the viewers would not consider purchasing an IWC. If you spend your commute on a bus it is highly unlikely you will be purchasing a $5,000 watch. Although they are very eye catching, I don't believe they are all effective in targeting the correct consumers.
ReplyDeleteGood point about the watch advertisment but if it was for a cheap Walmart watch that advertisement would work. I think these advertisements reflect innovation, however it could be early innovation as to how advertisements are changing in a social media context.
DeleteI would agree with you that they are more effective than most other advertising. Its a different more interesting way of doing it. I would think that where people post certain products would relate to the social class that would buy it. Like that watch would have to be advertised in another area. The things on the escalator would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures and the bus handles that look like watches. Neat stuff, yea advertisers definitely have to get more creative because I think society is so use to traditional adverising and were so turned off and use to it
